Comments:  Visited your web site and have to say that it is done in a most professional manner.  I was stationed at TSN from 1/72 - 11/72 after our squadron, the 310th TAS was transferred from Phan Rang to TSN.  I was a flight engineer and delivered troops, rations, ammo throughout the Delta, Central High lands and places north.   I have many fond memories of the troops that we supplied and supported.  I retired as a MSgt on 6/1/81 and constantly relive the pleasantries and not so pleasant times but, have come to the realization that all "NAM VETS" have a bond that will always tie us together until we meet someday in a better place!  The TSN web page does that now in this world that we all share....GREAT JOB!!!

Comments:  I proudly served in the 377th Security Police Squadron from 29 Dec 69 - 15 Dec 1970.  I was an A1C with 13 months service time.  I retired from the USAF 1 May 96 as a SMSgt from Randolph AFB, TX with 26 honorable years of service.   I worked Charlie Section, walking Elephant walk for 6 months then I went to rocket tower duty.   Tango Alpha was my primary post although I also worked Tango 10.  I would love to hear from anyone who may have served with me then, although most of the names and faces are a blur.  Too many years gone by.  I think this web site is awesome and I am really glad I found it.  Thank you all that served and God Bless America.

Comments:  I was a SSgt (70205) assigned to the 1964th Communications Group (AFCS), from Jul 1969 - October 1970.  Our servicing orderly room was the 1876th Communications Squadron.  My primary responsibility during that timeframe was to process hundreds of awards and decorations for Air Force personnel whose organizations were aligned under the 1964th Comm. Gp.  I retrained from admin to personnel whereby I achieved the rank of CMSgt.   I subsequently retired from the Greatest U.S. Air Force in the world on 1 July 1995, after serving my country faithfully for 28 years.  I'm very much interested in hearing from folks who might have served during the timeframe I was stationed over there.  In the meantime, life is good in TEXAS!

Thanks to all who are instrumental in putting this Association together.  My hat is off to you.

Comments:  Great job on this web location.  Thanks for the efforts to allow Viet Nam vets to communicate with each other.  I was in country on TDY right after TET 68 and was there for TET 69.  Was stationed at Mactan Island, PI and Clark AB, PI for 15 months and bounced back and fourth to Tan Son Nhut.  I was in charge of C-130 engine flight line maintenance on Charlie Row, Rebel Ramp and Bomb Dump.  Was quite an experience.

Comments:  Just received the November issue of REVETMENTS, great job!   At the end of Taylor McKinnon's piece on Tan Son Nhut, he reminds us of the yearly physical and how Prostate Cancer is in the cards for us.

I'm a three year survivor of lung cancer and prostate cancer, which my doctor had me go the VA in Houston to fill out the forms for reporting my illness.  My type of lung and prostate cancer are two of ten that are related to Vietnam Vets.  So every Vet should be checked once a year and one blood test determines your PSA level for Prostate Cancer, 5 and above is serious.

Please get checked, it could save your life..

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  In the early days of the war, "Operation Ranch-hand" was handled entirely from Tan Son Nhut, from Jan 07, 1962 - Dec 1965.  Then "Ranch-hand" was re-assigned to Bien Hoa Airfield.  For those who do not know what "Ranch-hand" was, that was the Defoliant Operation in SEA, which was the code name for "AGENT ORANGE."  For a more detailed account of AGENT ORANGE please go to http://home.earthlink.net/~aircommando1/RANCHHAND.htm

Official USAF Archives indicates that AGENT ORANGE was utilized to eleminate the weed problem on Tan Son Nhut.  This was accomplished on numerous occassions.  Until 1997, I would have told everyone that I was not exposed to AGENT ORANGE. After receiving the USAF Archival film strip M0073, M0074 and M0075, I now believe that everyone stationed at TSN was indeed exposed to AGENT ORANGE.  The Quarterly Historical Report dated, 1 Oct 68 - 31 Dec 68, which is located on film strip M0074, Frame 0109, paragraph three states:

"Vegetation control continues to be inadequate.  Civil Engineering was unsuccessful in obtaining an aircraft for spraying herbicides in areas that can not be reached by a land vehicle.   Herbicides that were being obtained through the "boot leg" type operations can no longer be obtained.  Civil Engineering has ordered 1000 gallons of a commercial type herbicide that proved acceptable during a test conducted during the last quarter.  The vegetation has stopped growing and should be dry enough to burn during the month of Jan 1969."

Comments:  Just discovered the Tan Son Nhut Association's new web site.   Outstanding work on Charles Penley's part.  Flew with the 360th TEWS as A/C from November 1966 till April 1967.  Served under Colonel Jim Jelly and Phil Horne.   Came home early to bury our son at Arlington.  Lost in a chopper crash while serving with the 173rd Airborne.  I guess that's why I don't recognize many of the later 360th members on the web site.  But, it is an honor to be a member of the Tan Son Nhut Association.  Great work by Don Parker and John Peele.   (Once made him a full colonel in my first letter to him !!)

Comments:  Finally!  My sincere and deep appreciation for all of those who are responsible for developing this web page site and to those who are currently engaged in forming and maintaining the "Tan Son Nhut Association.  Charles Penley:   Thank you very much for your email ... which I received this morning ... advising me to visit this site.

I arrived in the RVN in February 1970 and DEROS'd in October 1971 having served for 18 months.   I was assigned first to the ALCE (Home of "Saigon Tea") and second to the ALCC or "The Bunker".  I worked for the most part during the night from 10 pm until 7 or 8 in the morning.  During that time I had the pleasure and honor of working with a number of fine officers and enlisted guys and am hoping to make contact with them through this site.   Among them:  Sgt. Mike ("You gotta be packin my .... ") Bradley, Sgt. John "Jack" Saunders, Sgt John Noel (who among other things distinguished himself at being an expert in Beatles) lore, A1C Mike Deavers, and many others.

I lived on the 2nd floor of the barracks, which was located adjacent to the chow hall and across the street from some oriental furniture sales shop.  I would like to hear from anyone with whom I might have served with during that time frame.  Sure would like to spend an evening downing some brew and recalling the days of our youth.

Comments:  Your work looks great, and all of us can be proud of the TSN presentation you offer.  Congratulations.  FYI, I know of one other you can add to the TSN KIA list.  There was an RF4 pilot named Anderson (a 1stLt in the 460 Tac Recon Wing I believe, sorry I can't remember his first name) who disappeared back about the summer of 1966 on a mission to N. VN.  I used to visit with him in the O Club, he flew mostly at night (like I did with Scatback) and was there for breakfast after missions.  Keep up the good work.  Ken Moll

FROM THE WEB MASTER:  We would like for everyone to make sure that they keep their e-mail address up to date with the TSNA Public Affairs Officer, Mr Bob Need.   We have had two members trying to contact another member and the email is coming back as undeliverable.  Apparently the member has changed email addresses and has not thought to updated his new email address.

Comments:  I was sent to the 360th TEWS from McClellan AFB, CA, where I was working on EC-121's.   I then worked as crew chief on flight line for my stay at TSN.  During my year I went TDY to NKP Thailand for 30 days, May - June 1971.  We rotated crew chiefs from TSN every month to NKP.   That unit was 360th DET 1.  COMMANDO FORGE was name of the unit then.   I then left TSN February 1972 to Norton AFB, CA, to work on C141's.  October 1972 I got orders to go back to SEA at Ubon Air Base, with just a little under a year left on my enlistment.  I was also told that I would be involuntarily cross-trained out of my maintenance field to munitions field, and hauling bombs in the line delivery unit to flight line.   That AFSC was 99002.  For any of you that had this same situation, let me know about it and e-mail me.   This was a very frustrating time, I must admit.  I think it was in support of Operation Linebacker, who knows!

I am also looking for a close flight line buddy who was stationed with me in the 360th TEWS by the name of Mike Martin.   He was stationed at McClullen AFB, CA, with me before we went to TSN.  He then left Nam for Malmstrom AFB, MT.  That's the last I heard of him.  Any other line maintenance guys who were at 360th TEWS in 1971 - 1972, check out website http://www.ec47.com/gsmith1.htm   This is part of JC Wheeler's EC47 website.

Comments:  Great website for Tan Son Nhut Association.  I spent one tour (12 mo.) at Tan Son Nhut from May 1970 - May 1971, flying AC-119 Shadow gunships.  I lived in Building 113, Room 13 with Fred the Gecko.  Boarded-up window so sleep was somewhat possible during daylight.  Lots of choppers flying overhead to and from Camp Alpha.

Any comments on the spelling for Hop-Tac?  Have written a novel titled, "Shadows of Saigon;" not yet published, but trying.

What was the name of the restaurant near the American Gate?  Fletch (Shadow 27).

Comments:  Great work.  I was 1st Sgt of the 360th upon its activation until Apr 1967.  We saw many things happen during that time and was the only unit whose Orderly Room and Operations Center were on the active taxiway.  We used to meet our special aircraft as they landed and led them in.  We lost one aircraft when an Air America C-46 groundlooped on the entrance to the active taxiway and ran into our aircraft that had been there only a day or so.  We lost one aircraft to enemy action and we need to enter their names in the memory book.
